A Safe Space for All
To say it was a beautiful day in West Hollywood is an understatement; it was perfect L.A. weather. The All Black Lives Matter protest flooded the streets of Hollywood like a wave of brightly colored confetti. I was posted up at Santa Monica and Crescent Heights Boulevard. I’ve been to several protests, most of the signs reading victims’ names, chants, cries for change, and anger at the institutionalized racism that brought them all together. This protest was different; the LOVE was real. More color, more unity, more acceptance. It wasn’t only the LGBTQ community supporting BLM, it was family brought together, remembering their roots and standing together. Macy Gray led the chants, fists in the air, dancing together. “Peaceful protest” doesn’t do it justice….it was a safe space for all.
