I hadn’t eaten Thai food for nearly 18 years and I was talked into going to Palms Restaurant off Hollywood Boulevard last Tuesday, where my Thai cherry was popped (in case you were wondering how I got my name).
So here I am at the Palms ordering again. Although there’s nothing labeled as Vegan on the menu here, they were very accommodating, so this shouldn’t stop you from visiting one of the best Thai restaurants in LA because they will help you with your dietary desires. Last week I ordered the Coconut Soup which is not Vegan, but hey, neither am I. This time however, I asked for it to be made Vegan. My cover was blown when the waitress saw a shrimp cake on my plate and my mind was blown when she almost tripped over herself to warn me that it wasn’t Vegan. There were about 15 of us sitting at the table and yet she was able to keep track.
The soup was just as good this time with the water base as it was with chicken broth which is how it’s normally made, and I couldn’t tell the difference. I got the tofu steamed with the lemongrass and mushrooms, and requested it to be extra spicy. It was insanely delicious! There’s live music here and a giant Elvis statue, but there’s really no parking on Hollywood Boulevard, so bring $4 cash (plus a tip for your Valet) and you can park in the covered parking on the Bronson entrance and just walk right into the restaurant from the parking garage. I absolutely recommend this restaurant for the atmosphere, the delicious food, and the incredible customer service. Thai Cherry will be coming at you with a non-Vegans view of eating Vegan in Los Angeles and beyond, so stay tuned.
